Junkers F-13 "Danziger Post"

Airfield on the place of old exercise field in Langfuhr was created around 1910 by Prussian military authorities. At the beginning it was military airfield. After the nd of 1st world war and establishing of Freie Stadt Danzig on the place of military airfield the new passenger airport was created. The airport was gouverned by Senat of Freie Stadt Danzig.

The airport developed dynamically in 1920s, it became airport with international character and important transit point. Beside the airport in Wrzeszcz (Langfuhr) other airport was created in Gorki Zachodnie (Westl. Neufähr) near Danzig, it was airport for flying boats. Airport in Wrzeszcz had regular connections with Berlin, Königsberg, Szczecin (Stettin), Olsztyn (Allenstein), Wroc³aw (Breslau), Kalmar, Stockholm, Prague, Moscow, Poznan, Warsaw and Lwow. During 1922-1935 about 1500 passengers used the airport every year. The airport was located near the center of the city and had bus, tram and train communication with Danzig and Zoppot.

Airport in Wrzeszcz was used a long time after the end of 2nd world war ant it was at least closed in 1974.

Freie Stadt Danzig had its own airplanes, the national code were letters DZ. Below you can see the colours of Junkers F-13 of Danziger Post. The international symbols were two white crosses on the red background.
