Goya

The Goya was a German refugee ship which was originally built as the freighter Akers in Oslo in 1940 with a length of 131 m and width of 17 m.

On 16th April 1945 Goya with 6385 people onboard left port in Hela. About 15 minutes before midnight was hit by 2 torpedoes from soviet submarine L-3. The ship broke on two parts and after 4 minutes sank. The water that time was only 3 degrees of Celsius. Only 182 people were saved. Over 6200 died. According to other sources the passenger list stopped abruptly at 7200 people. Goya sank to a depth of approximately 78 m.
