Kriegssäule i Gefallendenkmal

In 1915 the war column - Kriegssäule was built on the ruins of St. Elisabeth bastion. Kriegssäule was a symbol connected to old roman tradition, there was a war column called columna bellica at the front of Bellona temple on Mars field in Rome. It was a place where Senat of Rome declared war against enemies lands and where the salutes were given to commanders comming back from war expeditions.
